A special experience: the Dolmen de Goer
The best preserved example of a megalithic tomb in a rectangular pattern, built about 3300 BC - it is read on the board of verfalllenen Dolmen de Goer (
link to the map).
Sun praised in guide books, it is obvious: this dolmen is a must at this year's megalithic visit list.
The vaunted be the best preserved presents itself at first sight rather unspectacular.
But megalithic Proven suspect that may be hidden under the hill, in fact, spectacular.
If it were not the sprouting could be quite cluttered entrance, the Imagination improper direction of current landfill use and potential wandering startled scurrying rodents.
If it were not could signal an overturned lattice: potential danger rather stay outside.
And above all: that is so enormous dark in the background ...
But curiosity, adventure and an unexpected sense of daring came together and off we went step by step, with bewappnet headlamp, flashlight, and another camera. The first hesitant steps
placed carefully between different waste, so we went down the hall - from the rubbish apart: Perceived familiar territory: the stones on the sides and top. Spectacular?
A look into the long corridor after turning into the said right angle could forget everything: the dirt, fallen down the grid, especially the tons of soil that were above me.
magnificent in the design: large plates, filled in the spaces between them to secure hundreds of smaller stones, and thus were stabilized. One pillar in about half of the corridor, stable for thousands of years.
And way back in the dark background, a narrow passage into the actual grave chamber, barely visible in the dark - and the certainty that not enough, unfortunately, two flashlights, these - and now is it - to light spectacular site in order to document photographically due = great regret. There
photos there, but unfortunately too dark and can only be understood with personally experienced.
the way, I'm going on tour alone and admit: it has cost me overcome to dive into this darkness. A flashlight auf'm head and were in the hand is not necessarily really strong supports. The idea of entering a tomb, and the fantasy that there could still lying around all remained in the certainty that everything is well preserved in museums.
Perhaps it was then, in particular, this cautious Approaching the darkness, lit up by my two lamps and a clear view shone on an almost unique structure that allowed me to experience this ancient site of the human race carefully and with appreciation for this master builder activity.
Perhaps it was also the endless fiddling with flashlight and camera to at least bring a photo yield with sparse to light, which all the other more resistant thoughts and ideas were hastily zipping the corner to the exit.
was certainly there is a very special experience for me - and so is every megalithic fan recommended: you let the Dolmen de Goer not miss - and take strong lamps.
